Samsung Electro-Mechanics, sharing history with the Korean components industry

Founded in 1973 to promote the localization of electronic components, Samsung Electro-Mechanics laid the groundwork for technological independence by producing components for analog TVs, including tuners, deflection coils, and high-voltage transformers.

In the 1980s, Samsung Electro-Mechanics expanded its business scope from TV components to include computer parts such as speakers and capacitors, while also establishing a foundation in materials and components. MLCC, currently Samsung Electro-Mechanics’ flagship product, began mass production in 1986.

In the 1990s, Samsung Electro-Mechanics reduced its focus on assembly operations and expanded its materials and components business, entering the printed circuit board sector. The company also established production plants overseas including China and Thailand to expand its operations.

In the 2000s, Samsung Electro-Mechanics entered the camera module business and continued to release new MLCC and semiconductor package substrates, contributing to advancements in IT.

Throughout the 2010s, the company diversified its operations beyond IT into industrial and automotive electronics, contributing to innovations in set products with high-end products and distinctive solutions.

Since 2020, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has shifted its business structure to focus on high-value products in AI, servers, and automotive sectors and launched the Mi-RAE project, encompassing Mobility industry, Robot, AI/Server, and Energy.

As the electronics industry transitions from mobile and mobility platforms to the era of humanoids, Samsung Electro-Mechanics is preparing for a new leap forward, leveraging its core technologies in components and materials.

Since its founding in 1973, Samsung Electro-Mechanics has increased its revenue from KRW 0.08 billion to an impressive KRW 8.9 trillion by 2023 - an increase of 110,000 times. The number of employees has also grown 39 times, rising from 900 to approximately 35,000, including those overseas.
